Breaking News
Foreign Affairs Minister, Chrystia Freeland speaking at Burma Task Force demonstration
The government of Canada announced on May 23rd, 2018 its new strategy in response to the Rohingya crisis. Minister Freeland and Minister Bibeau announced that the Canadian government would give $300 million over a period of 3 years. Burma Task Force (BTF) has been instrumental in ensuring that the government of Canada engaged with the plight of the Rohingya & allocated funds to help those being oppressed. As you know, BTF has been diligently working full-time & around the clock to stop the Rohingya Genocide. We have been working relentlessly so our government does more while spreading awareness to all communities.
Current Crisis
  • Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh are overwhelmed & underprepared for the oncoming Monsoon season. Tens of thousands of lives are at “imminent risk” due to flooding, landslides, diseases.
  • United Nations committee Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) has requested the Myanmar regime to submit a report on the situation on women and girls from Rakhine due to “the extreme nature of the military’s mass atrocities”; This is only the 4th time this report has been requested by CEDAW.
  • Nobel laureates, Shirin Ebadi & Tawakkol Karman, call what is happening in Myanmar a genocide & called upon Canada to provide concrete leadership in ending the Rohingya Genocide
BTF Highlights
Ahmed Ramadan, Executive Director of BTF, has traveled back & forth between Toronto and Ottawa, to ensure that the plight of the Rohingya remains on the radar of the government. He co-chaired an Experts’ Roundtable Discussion alongside 40 other experts, representing many humanitarian & human rights organizations, doctors, lawyers, government officials, and elder statesmen, the first outcome of which has been an Experts’ Roundtable Summary. From this, the Rohingya crisis was added to the G7 Ministerial Summit’s agenda. on the plight of the Rohingya.

BTF Outreach Coordinators have keenly organized short talks & speeches in many centers & localities across the Greater Toronto Area for the month of Ramadan. This awareness and engagement campaign has been critical to keeping the community engaged

It is with great delight that we announce three new additions to our coalition:

Please check with your congregation if they would like to join our growing coalition or have an information session by the BTF accompanied by material, donations, and other opportunities.

As our team expands, our hard work for justice & dignity for the Rohingya people is growing and having more influence. In the summer we have planned dozens of community outreach events across the whole of the Greater Toronto Area, in addition to reaching out to other major cities across Canada.

BTF is a small organization but with your support, we have been able to do great things. Imagine how much more we can do with your continued support & more funding. Ramadan is a great time to donate & receive exponential rewards.
Check out and donate to our summer GoFundMe fundraiser: Rohingya Genocide: What if it was you?
A few dollars that you donate can have a HUGE impact & as you can see, translates into $300 MILLION from our government! Please share our campaign with your family, friends, & on Social Media.

The momentum is growing, our government is engaged, and while much remains to be achieved but rest assured that with your support & involvement – we will stop the Rohingya Genocide!!
